Maine Coons are giant, talkative, smart, loyal, playful, and affectionate. There are a few stories about how this breed of feline came to be, mostly involving cats on ships mating with shore cats. My favorite theory is that, in the 11th century when the Vikings discovered America, they brought with them Norwegian Forest Cats (to rid their ships of rats and because cats are awesome), and the Norwegian Forest Cats bred with the local short-haired cats in North America, and–DONG!–you’ve got yourself a fluffernutter Maine Coon.
